High resolution dynamic spectra of type III-like solar bursts have been obtained in the band from 310 to 340 MHz. The bursts occur in groups with an average time interval of about 1 s between successive bursts. The average duration of the bursts in the sample is 0.26 s, which is about 1/4 of the average duration of ordinary type III bursts observed in the same band. There is evidence for an increase in the average burst duration for sources near the solar limb. Positive and negative drifts occur and the frequency drift velocity is high. The percentages of bursts with negative, zero and positive drifts show a center-limb variation, indicating that propagation effects may be important. Some implications of the observational results are discussed. It appears that the observations may be explained in terms of the emerging flux model of solar flares.
