The present situation in terrestrial and space gravimetry is reviewed for absolute gravity measurements, for relative high precision terrestrial gravity measurements. The spectrum of the stationary gravity field of the earth is discussed. Accuracies as presently feasible and desired with forthcoming projects on the one hand, and geodetic necessities on the other hand, are discussed. Open questions still inherent in present and future programs are outlined.
