Scientific paper

Image tube photographs of the barred-spiral galaxy NGC 1097, taken
during very good seeing, reveal a tightly wound spiral structure in its
nucleus. Dust lanes extend from within 350 pc of the nucleus out to the
full extent of the bar. Spectral observations are used to redetermine
the line of nodes, rotation velocity, and mass of the nuclear region.
