The orbit of a particle in the restricted 3-body problem is calculated starting from the L2 Lagrangian point until a condition is reached in which the particle is far enough from the center for the osculating elements of its orbit to be fairly constant for more than several rotations of the system. The total energy is a function of the mass ratio, the initial velocity, and the ejection angle. When results are applied to gas flow by averaging over the ejection angle, it is found that the total energy of the flow is positive for mass ratio less than 0.35, while it is negative for a certain region of initial velocity near 0.1 with mass ratio between 0.35 and 0.5. In the former case, the gas is lost from the system; however, in the latter case, the ejected gas remains around the system, so that the whole problem should be solved anew hydrodynamically.
