A small, but entirely complete sample of stars is studied with a view to obtaining the space densities of the old disk, thick disk, and halo populations in the immediate solar neighborhood. For each star, the probability of membership of each population is found from the obseraved F/H abundance and space velocity, for various assumptions about the distribution functions of those quantities. The probabilities are used to weigh the individual values of V(max) exp -1; the space densities follow at once. The results indicate that stars of intermediate metallicity constitute some 4 percent of nearby stars, and that the extreme halo population is 2 or 3 times denser than commonly believed.
