Temperature measurements of the Sgr A and other galactic center molecular clouds are reported. These have been carried out using the (1, 1), (2, 2), (4, 4), and (5, 5) transitions of ammonia as well as the J = 6→5 and J = 5→4 transitions of the symmetric top molecules CH3CN and CH3CCH. In the Sgr A cloud, ammonia rotation temperatures are in the range 60 - 120K and this is consistent with the observations of CH3CN and CH3CCH. The authors confirm the conclusion of Morris et al. (1983) that high kinetic temperatures are characteristic of the entire galactic center region. Some possible heating mechanisms are discussed.
