The Subaru/XMM-Newton Deep Survey (SXDS) is a deep optical/X-ray survey covering a ˜ 1.3deg2 region of sky. Our goal is to provide an accurate census of the contents of the Universe without suffering from biasing effects of large-scale structures. The SXDS is part of an ambitious project to obtain extensive multiwavelength data, which would allow us a comprehensive approach to investigate the mass assembly history of galaxies over a broad span of cosmic history.
At this meeting, we describe the location, size and depth of this survey and present preliminary results from the X-ray and optical imaging observations, which we compare to those of existing deep extragalactic surveys. We also describe the additional multiwavelength observations which have been made, or are planned, for this region.
