Photographic mean light curves for 75 RRab variables and 55 RRc variables in the globular cluster ω Centauri are Fourier analysed. A discussion of the low order amplitude ratios and phase differences show good agreement with similar results for field RR Lyrae stars. The first overtone RRc variables in ω Cen show clear systematic changes in Fourier parameters with period. It is suggested that these changes can be interpreted as a bump progression sequence probably of a new type. It is noted that the long period RRab variables in ω Cen do not share the unique pulsation properties of the small-amplitude variable XZ Ceti recently discussed by Simon and Teays. Evidence is shown to exist for a Cepheid-like progression in the fundamental mode variables in ω Cen from periods about 0d.5 through the RRab region towards the resonance expected for periods about 1d.5. A quantitative comparison of the progression sequences in Type I and II Cepheids is attempted with some success.
