Scientific paper

Annual variation of J2, the coefficient of the dominant term
in the geopotential, is identified from the variations in the longitudes
of the ascending nodes for two satellites. It is concluded that about
half the seasonal variation of the lenght of day is due to a change in
the principal moment of inertia.
