From a sample of Virgo Cluster galaxies, the author shows that RDDO anemics cannot be distinguished from RDDO "healthy" spirals only on the basis of the H I deficiency. But all the anemics of the sample have H I surface densities lower than ≅5×1020atom cm-2. On the other hand, the influence of the H I content on the global star formation rate is studied in the context of current theoretical models (Elmegreen, 1979; Seiden, 1983; Dopita, 1985). These models predict that, below a threshold of 2 to 5×1020atom cm-2, (at least) massive stars do not form any more and the galaxy gets the anemic appearance. The author's observational value is remarkably consistent with this prediction. Finally, the different behaviours of RDDO spirals and anemics relatively to ram-pressure stripping are examined.
