The paper gives an extensive review of the historical development of auroral electron precipitation observation and studies the significant results of synoptic studies of auroral electron precipitations, latitudinal surveys of auroral electrons, and simultaneous observations of visual auroras and precipitations. Details on specific observations are given, including evening discrete arcs, morning discrete arcs, discrete arcs along the dayside oval, polar cap discrete auroras, discrete auroras during high geomagnetic activity, and diffuse auroras.
