Spectrophotometric data between 6000 and 10,000 Å are presented of the nucleus of the Seyfert 1 galaxy I Zwicky 1. The brightest emission lines in this spectral region are the λ8446 line of O I, the λλ8498, 8542, and 8662 lines of Ca II (the infrared triplet), and a strong blend of low-excitation lines near H I Pa9. A few parameters of the broad-line region (BLR) that control the Ca II emission are discussed. Similarities between I Zw 1 and Mrk 231, another Ca II emitter, are noted and together contrasted with other active galaxies. The deduced physical conditions in the Ca II emission zones within the BLR of these two active galaxies are shown to be similar to low-ionization zones in certain galactic emission-line objects.
